Itinerary : 5 days desert tour from Fes

DAY 1: Fes, Ifrane, Azrou Cedar Forest, Ziz Valley, Merzouga Desert

Start your 5-day tour from Fes to Marrakech with a pickup from your hotel or riad. We head toward the Sahara with scenic pauses along the way. Stop in Ifrane, known for its clean streets and alpine vibe. Continue to the cedar forest near Azrou, where Barbary macaques often appear in the trees. Carry on through the Ziz Valley, a ribbon of palms and villages set between rocky cliffs.

Arrive in Merzouga by mid to late afternoon. Ride camels across the dunes and watch the sun set from a high ridge. At the luxury camp, sip mint tea, settle into your private tent, and enjoy dinner. The night wraps up around the campfire with drums, Berber songs, and a sky full of stars.

DAY 2: Merzouga Desert Discovery

Early risers can catch a striking sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, set out to see life around Erg Chebbi.

Visit Khamlia, a village known for Gnawa rhythms and welcoming hosts. Go off-road to M’Fis, once a busy site for galena mining used in traditional kohl. Meet a nomadic family near the dunes, share tea, and learn about daily life in the desert.

After lunch, check in to a charming riad facing the golden sands of Erg Chebbi. Relax by the pool or unwind on the terrace. Later, stroll to the dunes for another sunset over the sand sea. You can also choose to spend a second night at the camp, just let us know during booking.

DAY 3: Merzouga, Rissani, Tinghir Oasis, Todra Gorge, Dades Valley

After breakfast at your riad, depart for Dades Valley. Along the route, stop in Rissani, Tinghir Oasis, and the Todra region. If it is market day in Rissani, Sunday, Tuesday, or Thursday, explore the lively souk with stalls of spices, produce, textiles, and street food. There will be time for photos and short walks to learn about local life.

Reach Todra Gorge and walk between towering rock walls that change color with the light. Later, continue to Dades Valley and check in to your hotel. Dinner is included, along with a restful night.

DAY 4: Dades Valley, Kelaat M’Gouna, Skoura, Ouarzazate

Begin with breakfast, then choose a gentle walk in Dades Valley or a guided hike through Monkey Fingers Canyon. The rock shapes and views here are unique.

Leave Dades on a scenic off-road track toward Kelaat M’Gouna. Stop to visit a Berber nomad family living in a mountain cave near Bou Tharar, share tea, and hear their stories. Continue to Kelaat M’Gouna, famous for Rose Valley. In spring, the fields bloom with fragrant pink roses.

Drive on to Skoura, a wide oasis with palm groves and mud-brick villages. Visit Amridil Kasbah, a well-preserved fortress that offers a clear look at life centuries ago. Afterward, travel to Ouarzazate and settle into your hotel. Enjoy dinner and a quiet evening.

DAY 5: Ouarzazate, Ait Ben Haddou, High Atlas Mountains, Telouet Kasbah, Marrakech

After breakfast, explore Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the desert. Tour Taourirt Kasbah and Atlas Studios to learn about the city’s heritage and its role in film.

Continue to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO-listed ksar and a classic example of earthen architecture. Scenes from The Mummy, Gladiator, and Game of Thrones were filmed here. After a relaxed visit and lunch, cross the High Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech. Stop at viewpoints for photos and visit Telouet Kasbah, once the stronghold of the El Glaoui family, also known as the Palace of Glaoui.

Arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon. We drop you at your accommodation, closing out a memorable 5-day journey from Fes to Marrakech.
